Completion of the urban metabolism seminar series

Metabolism of Cities co-organised a series of seminars on urban metabolism in policy and practice over the course of 2019. Funded by the Urban Studies Foundation, this seminar series took place in Cape Town (May 2019), Beijing (July 2019) and Brussels (November 2019). The three events were focused on bringing together academics, city officials, and practitioners to discuss the opportunities as well as the challenges around bringing urban metabolism into policy and practice.

For each event, a group of local partners assisted with the organisation and hosting of the seminar. In each city presentations were given by a variety of specialists, and the topics for the day were geared towards specific resource flow challenges present in the host city. All of the presentations were recorded and made available through the seminar series website. The goal of this seminar series was to explore the potential to develop or strengthen an urban metabolism community in these three cities. In the coming months various activities will be rolled out to continue engaging with these communities.
