Description

For most of our Flagship cities, we don't have a geocode scheme yet. The geocode scheme is meant to help us and anyone starting a city understand what the subdivisions of the city's country are. This helps to look for data on higher scales, find respective ministries or regional associations etc.

The schemes that we have can be found here. The countries' subdivisions Wikipedia article, is a great way to look this up, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_divisions_of_Portugal and then build the scheme.

@Paul, I actually a general question with this: Do you still plan on using the geocode schemes? Does this help with the nesting?
Secondly, there were some "areas of country" started, but then abandoned and instead there are some called "subdivisions of country", e.g. for SA, there is two schemes. Any reason for that and any preference going forward?

Good question. In general we should indeed have geocode information (as in, we should document very clearly different levels in the system), but I am not yet 100% convinced the current tech setup is what will persist. That is also why it is a bit messy - I have not sat down for this yet. I will do so, but in the meantime people can still contribute by collecting info (we would just wait with the uploading of it until we know where and how we want to document this).

@whoever takes on this task: This one has low priority and you can hold of with making the scheme until further notice. In the meantime, you can already try to collect the shapefiles for the various divisions of Colombia :)
